Here’s Real-Life Lesson #4,646 I’ve taught to football players for 40 years and college law enforcement students for 2 decades – don’t start something you’re not willing to fight for. Dual meaning.
The first meaning is related to pre-Internet conflict. There was no Facebook in the 1970’s and 1980’s. There was no such thing as cyber-conflict. That meant conflict was usually spread face-to-face.  “Start something†was a big part of street-talk that started conflict or solved conflict. “Hey man, you starting something?†or “I’m telling ya, don’t start something!†could start a brawl or end it. But “start something†also has a second meaning – starting something from scratch can make you or break you. Staring something from scratch is tremendously rewarding but it won’t grow overnight. Building what you start from scratch takes a process that resembles hell. The struggle to make something out of nothing sounds like hell, looks like hell, and feels like hell. Building something from nothing is always a tough challenge but it gets tougher when there’s no blueprint. It’s easy to quit on something you start without the fire to keep it alive.
Today is the second anniversary of Blunt Talk Podcast. We started it from scratch for two reasons. First, to promote my business, X Fitness. Secondly, I needed to lift and be lifted. I’ve been blessed with several lifting careers that taught me Real-Life Lesson #1,100 – there is no greater reward than soul-lifting. Whether you are the lifter or the soul being lifting, no reward is greater than the Lifter’s High. No material possession can match it. Two years ago, it became more challenging to lift and be lifted. We started Blunt Talk Podcast with a two-word mission statement – to lift. It’s the same mission statement that governs my football teams, business, and every profession I’ve been blessed to have had.
Our first episode was a solo podcast that attracted only 7 listeners. Even next-of-kin wouldn’t listen in. Then I decided to invite guests. The 90-10 Rule came into effect – way over 90% never replied to my invitations. Way less than 10% responded. But those who did were a blessing. We have had 147 guests on Blunt Talk Podcast who have lifted me during each episode. Not one guest depressed me. Selfishly, it worked out. I got pumped. I felt the Lifter’s High.
Our audience grew every week. We recently reached our 20,000th listener and 69th country. In each episode, I ask only two scripted questions. The first question asks the guest to explain her/his professional journey. The last question asks the guest for an inspirational message that will lift all of plane Earth. In between, there’s no script. Just straight from the heart natural free-flowing dialogue about real-life lessons learned to beat our common enemy – adversity.
I’ve been privileged to have been lifted by 100% of our guests. Over 90% of our guests were complete strangers. Less than 10% have been people I have crossed paths with in the past. Either way, I’ve been lifted by every single guest. I’m honoured/honored. Among the countless real-life lessons I’ve learned through Blunt Talk Podcast is a reminder of what real-life teaches every day – don’t start something you’re not willing to fight for. Nothing just happens. Nothing and no one will grow up the way you want it to grow up without heavy lifting.
Everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. There have been more wrongs than rights. There have been moments where I’ve asked myself, “Why the hell am I doing this?†Each guest has answered my question. We do this to lift. No one has ever let us down or brought us down. #MuchLove to all our guests and listeners. May you all #KeepLifting.
X Fitness is committed to lift. There’s enough depressing news in the world. Blunt Talk Podcast won’t contribute to it.  All 147 episodes of Blunt Talk Podcast are free, permanently archived, compliments of my gym, X Fitness. Every guest is guaranteed to lift. Here is the link: http://blunttalk.libsyn.com/
