Here’s a fun test:

Stare at this two word statement:

NOTHING’S WORKING

In 30 seconds, find all the different meanings. NOTHING’S WORKING has more than one meaning. This is like those psychological tests where you’re given a picture to stare at. The longer you stare at the picture, the image you see originally changes to another image.

NOTHING’S WORKING is one of the top questions I’m asked even though it’s technically not a question. Examples:

1. NOTHING’S WORKING…I’m not losing fat.
2. NOTHING’S WORKING…I’m not making bigger muscles.
3. NOTHING’S WORKING…I’m not getting stronger.
4. NOTHING’S WORKING…I’m not getting better.
5. NOTHING’S WORKING…I’m not getting the dream job I want.
6. NOTHING’S WORKING…I’m getting scholarship offers.

These are just the top six. There are more examples. Almost always, NOTHING’S WORKING is followed by “I’VE TRIED EVERYTHING.” They go hand-in-hand. The two statements are romantically involved. The third statement is automatic – “No you haven’t.”

“No you haven’t” is the solution to the first two statements and to every meaning of NOTHING’S WORKING that you have identified. NOTHING’S WORKING is a lie that we’ve all tried at some point of our lives. NOTHING’S WORKING is our attempt to bullshit ourselves while trying to attract as much sympathy as we can so that we can sink in the slimy pit of self-pity that we create for ourselves. “No you haven’t” sounds like an asshole-voice but it isn’t. It’s the voice of truth. The voice of reason. The voice of our conscience when it’s fully functional.

If you have found more than one meaning to NOTHING’S WORKING, you’ve solved your problem. Feel free to send me your answers about how many meanings you’ve found. It took me a few tries but I finally did it. It happened when I decided to listen to my conscience instead of tuning it out.

This is a copyrighted excerpt from a new book I’m writing. On another note, here’s another of my top 100 Class Rock back-to-basics workout songs that I’ve resorted to for the first 100 days of 2014. It’s a masterpiece. The sixth line of the lyrics is an all-timer – “Everybody’s got the dues in life to pay.” Crank this song up, load the bar up, and lift. Clear your head, shut it all out, and lift. Test what you’ve got. We’ve all got limitless potential to do more and more and more and to lift more and more and more. But, it won’t just happen on its own. There’s dues to pay. The link is after my signature.

Hey…this was for you. Hope this changes everything.

#peace.
