Unless you’ve won the genetic lottery or take illegal performance-enhancing drugs, there’s nothing tougher than getting into top shape and staying in top shape. Anyone who tells you it will be easy is full of shit. There’s nothing easy about getting in peak shape. It’s hell. And it’s worse hell to stay in top shape. Every force you can think of will work against you. If you want to listen to the bullshitters who tell you there’s a shortcut, you’ll be disappointed when the truth finally hits – there are no shortcuts.

Fairy tales are for children. At some point, we all have to stop believing in fairy tales or you run the risk of living a life of delusion. The biggest problem with reality is not living in it. Refusing to live in reality leads to crushing disappointment after crushing disappointment until bitterness takes over every fiber of body, mind, and soul.

The good news is that all of us have what it takes to get the job done. The bad news is that calling up our full potential is the toughest thing we’ll ever do in our lives because our minds will try like hell to make our lives hell by tempting you to give up when the fight gets tougher. The mind will tempt you to make every day garbage day. The mind will tempt you to become a human garbage disposal to help combat stress. The mind will tempt you to be a conformist, to blindly follow misery all in the name of a social life or approval or popularity contest or top martyrdom spot. When the fight for the most sympathy becomes your biggest fight, you’re guaranteed to end up in last place, becoming the frustrated pissed-off bitter person who hates those who end up in first place.

Be careful of what voices you listen to. We’re bombarded by outer and inner voices. It’s not easy to pick out the right voices. There’s nothing harder to do. The voices you choose to listen to determine what you become and don’t become. The voices you shut out and the ones you turn up full blast will make you or break you. The voices you decide to listen to determines if every day becomes garbage day.
