I don’t workout for fun. I don’t workout as a hobby. I don’t workout when its convenient. I don’t workout for social connection. I don’t workout to talk about workplace hell. I don’t workout to talk about game 7. I don’t workout to gossip about who went to what party, to what wedding, to what stag & doe. I don’t workout to catch up with friends about who bought what house, who’s renovating what room, and who is going on what vacation. We don’t speak conventional Bar Talk during our workouts. We speak our own Bar Talk.
I workout for need that goes beyond big muscles. I want big muscles as much as way human I’ve met but I workout for something bigger than big muscles. I workout for the same reason I have worked out with my teams for 45 years – survival. Mind-body-soul survival. We don’t flex in the mirror. We don’t pose in the mirror. We don’t shoot selfies. We don’t scroll, post, or paste during our workouts. We don’t waste energy talking about irrelevance and fighting about irrelevance.
Last night’s workout, like every workout during my 51 year workout streak, with or without my teams, demanded every ounce of energy in mind-body-soul. Here’s Real Life&Death Lesson #26,035 that I’ve taught football players, college law enforcement students, women’s lifting teams for 45 years – the difference between getting in Personal Best Shape and Personal Worst shape is which type of Bar Talk you engage in. You can invest in Bar Talk where you all fight over opinions that drain your energy. Or you can invest in Bar Talk that builds S&M – strength & muscle.
During my 15 years as a police officer, I investigated countless crimes committed during Bar Fights that resulted from drunken, high bar talk. I never have and never will speak drunken Bar Talk during workouts that drains valuable energy by fighting over nothing. We speak another Bar Talk during our workouts. We speak Bar Talk that gives you another high – the Lifter’s High.
I wrote book #61 last month called From Mindset to Set-Minded. It’s another book that teaches our Bar Talk we speak during our workouts. It’s not for everyone. It’s for those who need it. Change your Bar Talk, change the outcome.
