Huge honour/honor to have been published in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) magazine – January/February 2013 edition, pp. 54-57. The three-page article is entitled “The Psychology of Strength.” It explains the all-important mindset needed to maximize every workout and to extend workout careers. The focus of the article is that every person who works out is an ‘athlete’ and that working out is a sport that can be played for an entire lifetime. The AFCA is one of the largest associations of football coaches in the world. The AFCA head office is based in Waco Texas. The executive director is legendary NCAA coach Grant Teaff.
I’ve been blessed to have been published by the most respected coaching magazines, including Scholastic Coach magazine, that published articles about my SWAT offense and defense systems. There are lessons to be learned here – keep plugging away, keep trying, never back down from a challenege, never back down from a goal. I never thought I would be a writer. I never wrote “writer” in ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’ school essays. Being a writer was never a life-long goal, never a burning passion but it became one when I was told it couldn’t be done. The moment I was told it was too hard and too risky, I put in in high gear.
Like anything else, writing takes practice. Serious REPS. If you put you mind to it, you can eventually become good at anything. But you have to put your mind to it because it won’t just happen. Nothing just happens.
