When they can’t explain success or winning big, they call it luck. They resort to calling it luck when it takes work – dual meaning. (i) when it takes hard work to explain why a team or individual is winning big. (ii) when it takes gut-spilling hard work to win big.
Here’s Real Life&Death Lesson #26,033 that I’ve taught football players, college law enforcement students, women’s lifting teams for 45 years – there is no luck. The Presumption of Luck is more brainwashing & bullshitting that tries to make you believe in make-believe. The myth of luck is a dangerous presumption that facilitates deadly complacency that breaks you, your team, and makes you go broke financially and in mind-body-soul.
Calling it luck is the lazy way out of Thinking Big to explain Winning Big. Calling it luck is the easy way out of having to stretch your thinking, to deepen your thinking, to having to exert intellectually to the next level and the next and the next. Calling it luck is painless. Calling it luck eases the pain of the hard work needed to think harder than you ever have. And it eases the pain of the truth – the truth that you have to invest gut-spilling hard work to win big.
Blaming it on luck eases the pain of losing, eases the pain of having skipped the Training Pain, eases the pain of choking during training. Calling it luck builds wishful thinking, the delusion that waiting for luck will let you bypass the grind that pushes you to the next round, the next level, the next set, the next rep.
I wrote 3 books during the past month – #CrimeFight part 1, 2, and 3. One of the many themes of the true stories in #CrimeFight is what you don’t learn when you binge on your favourite cop shows. There are no coincidences, just connections. Nothing just happens. Nothing happens randomly, coincidentally, accidentally, overnight, or by luck.
